MacIvers of Lower Barvas, Lewis

My great grandmother was Mary MacIver, daughter of Kenneth MacIver and his second wife Mary MacLean. Kenneth MacIver was the son of Colin MacIver of Lower Barvas, Isle of Lewis. Kenneth and his family left Lower Barvas and sailed to Canada on July 1,1863 aboard the ship Elizabeth. Kenneth and his family settled in Kincardine Township of Bruce County, Ontario. The family consisted of children Donald, (married Mary Smith), John, Ann, (married George MacLeay), Isabella, (married Kenneth Smith), Magdalena, (married Norman Matheson), Mary, (married John Smith), and John, (married Mary Corrigal).
Kenneth died in 1867 and is buried in Kincardine cemetery.
His descendants are many and are scattered over Canada and the United States.
In August of 2009 there will be a small gathering of these MacIver descendants on the Isle of Lewis. Many of us will be meeting for the first time. It promises to be a very exciting time.
